I got Coldplay’s new CD the other day. X&Y from Coldplay may well have a stupid title but the ‘album’ itself, complete with a A side and B side listing, is really very good if you ask me.
Sure, it’s commercial and steers a safe musical journey down the middle of the road, but nonetheless it’s very very playable with some tracks that will still sound good in 20 years I bet.
Some people will of course say that this new CD follows a tried and tested commercial formula that the record company love because it’s a money spinner winner. But this is only the bands third album, so what exactly do the detractors expect? Listen to U2’s first three albums and they pretty much sound the same, or at least they did/do to me.
If I were a poncy-up-my-own-ass music critic writing for some poncy-up-their-own-ass music magazine I’d give this CD 4.5 stars, leaving that last half star out just to be cool. Coldplay could be happy with that, but in the end what do they care what the critics think. They’ve sold something like a million copies of the CD in just a week here in the UK so I imagine Chris Martin and the rest of the band will be happy enough with that.

I have some friends of mine that toured and opened for Coldplay back in 2004 including the U.K. The name of their group is called Eisley and the type of music they play is Emo. They front 3 Avril Lavigne looking girls playing keyboards and guitars as well as a couple of guys, one on bass and another on drums. They’re all related with the exception of the bass player. Simon I hope you don’t mind if I include a link. If this is a faux pas in blog etiquette I apologize. Thanks.

For some reason the link I included in my last post returns back to your site Simon so I’ll try it again. Thanks for the liberty!!! Eisley

I’ll jump in here on Cold Play, my family and I saw them with Eisley opening for them in Austin a couple of years ago. It was a great show all around. They had a very nice light show which my wife enjoyed. Glad to hear their new release is good as well. And I like to call them “albums” too. My son now collects vinyls and bought a portable record player to play them on. Funny how things like that come back around. 8 tracks are next! In fact we do own an 8 track player and I’m thinking of installing it in my 72 VW bus. :) Later.

I’m thrilled with it so far. Got it all bootleg a couple months back, and now I have the real versions. All those people who think that popular=bad are mainly out to defend the implied corrolary that their unpopular shit=good. Thanks for standing up for them! ;-)

You know what… I have never seen an 8 track in my life. :-)I no longer even have a tape player in my house. I buy CD’s, rip them, then play them via iTunes leaving the box and disc in my collection in pristine condition forever :-)

Yes – 90125. A top album from my very early years of livin music. Cool! :-)I have 3 months of non-stop music on my iPod Photo (60Gb). In fact I have all that music, plus all my photography and all my work including all my personal websites like ‘Meanwhile‘. Staggering really. That this little thing can hold all that. And there is still room for more!

It’s a top album and if someone told me that Edge from U2 was guesting on ‘Speed Of Sound’ I would totally believe them.

8 tracks are archaic, but they are a novelty. They’re about the size of a medium size book and can be purchased at resale shops, estate sales and yard sales. The 8 track actually is a pretty bad way to listen to tunes. It clicks and shifts 8 times during the play time interupting the songs! As I said, it’s a novelty from days gone by.My daughter purchased a box of tapes at a sale for about $5. Which included the Beatles, Yes,and other classics. We have yet to play them because we need some special wires for the speakers. I think my son puts all his music on his i pod . ;)

X&Y is in my cd player now. I’m enjoying Fix You. And I have to admit U2 must be one of their influences because the sound is proving it. But who isn’t influenced by U2?

3 months of music is incredable!

It would be more if I ripped ALL of my CD’s. :-)
