I know it’s the start of the week and probably too early to be posting websites for procrastination purposes, but I thought you might enjoy this one.
Canadian cartoonist Cathy Thorne takes a humorously look at the day-to-day things women face, but while her cartoons are obviously appealing to a female audience they’re funny and enjoyable even for a red blooded male like me.
Working from her home on a quiet street in Toronto Thorne publishes a weekly cartoon “about real women” on her website ‘Everyday People‘ which is really worth look. As a guy I found myself thinking “Yeah I know how that feels” when looking at some of the cartoons, like the one which shows a woman standing alone with a captions that reads; “It’s not that I want to change him, it’s just that he would be so much better if he were different.” Or another in which a couple stand apart, arms crossed in annoyance with the caption; “I know I’ve been overly emotional lately, but that only means you should be nicer to me.”
It’s a funny site that’s well worth a visit. You can even email the cartoons, though you can’t add a message to the email unfortunately. I wanted to email a couple of them but I decided against it because on their own I was worried that it might seem like I was just being mean. But there I go again, trying to preempt what a woman would think – I guess I’ll never learn!

I completely agree with what the cartoons say.
It’s obvious. She’s right and she knows it.
I shall bear it all in mind for next time….

A woman’s brain…. strange place
A mans mind is more simple, food, TV, sex
: )

What a shame you can’t buy these as cards too! They’re great. I SO related to this one!

Yes, I am procrastinating…doing some housework. This was a good diversion : ) There’s got to be a cartoon about just that.
P.S. In honor of that “honor semi-colons” day, I’d like to say: please don’t use them where a colon should be; like when you’re quoting something! :D

Come now Susan, I have look at many a friends baby and thought to myself “Damn that thing is ugly!” However I always politely say how adorable I think the little munchkin looks.
As for semi colons, I’m just confused between the different between them and colons. I just think that a semi colon has more style is all :-)

Am I the only one who thinks these paint a selfish image of women? “If you really loved me, you’d read my mind”? Well, if she really loved him, she wouldn’t have impossible expectations.
Not all of us are this crazy. Well, maybe for just 3 or 4 days out of every month. ^^ (Then again, I tend to think in long-purpose mindsets, and being crazy for 4 days a months equals being crazy for a whole month and a half per year. Scary!)

Fun post Simon. I have been on the receiving end of a couple of comments like that.
Allow me to be a rhetoric geek and say, as for the difference between a colon and semi-colon, I give you the following. The colon is used prior to a list or when you are providing a definition of something. The semi-colon is used to join to independent thoughts, or what could function as two separate sentences, only you use the semi-colon instead of a period to indicate a close affiliation of ideas. Having said this, I once had a Lit prof who regarding the semi-colon said, “We oughta get rid of the damn thing.”

I really like the baby one.
You know, I was sure you’d have at least one negative comment on this post mr. red blooded male; but it would appear you do not (note use of semicolon). Somehow I doubt I could get away with the same thing if I posted cartoons that poked fun at males. I think that’s more about the differences between you and I though then the difference in our genders.

Without sounding sarcastic, thanks for clearing that up Anthony… I’ve never been that good with the English language and always just left it to spell checker to correct it!
All that aside, great post. Although me and Kerry-Anne had a good laugh at it I have to admit I’ve passed a positive comment on a baby while thinking the complete opposite.
Fingers crossed I don’t have a ‘homer moment’ and slip up ;0)
