I love the rain the most when it stops. Perhaps if I lived some place where rain was a rarity I’d go outside to feel the drops hit my face and walk in the puddles kicking up the water like autumn leaves. But it’s been a rainy summer here, and as beautiful as it can be at times, I still love the rain the most when it stops.
I took these photographs in my garden after a rainstorm, and snapped the rainbow when it appeared in a field as I drove along a country road.
The American playwright, Tennessee Williams, once wrote “Don’t you just love these long rainy afternoons… when an hour isn’t an hour, but a little piece of eternity dropped into your hands, and who knows what to do with it?” – Well I’m trying Mr Williams, but maybe the rain has yet to learn that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

What beautiful pictures and I liked your line about the rain needing to learn that absence makes the heart grow fonder.
You might appreciate this poem by Frank Asch.
I hope the sun comes for you soon Simon.

I know what you mean about the rain. For me, there will be the occasional time when I enjoy being home, relaxed and cozy, while it rains outside. Most of the time, however, it makes me feel gloomy and lonely. I do not like being trapped inside.
Your pictures are lovely, as always.

Simon your pictures delight me. It’s been so hot and dry this summer that the little rain we’ve gotten has been an exciting event. Your pictures draw me in and make me feel joy, thanks for sharing.

Simon, remember the rainbow that touched your car in Scotland! That was so amazing! Your photos are also amazing; so glad you are willing to share them with us. I, on the other hand, love a rainy day – an unexpected gift of a day when all plans must change. A delightful excuse to cuddle; read; savor a cup of tea. And you’ve never seen rain like the rain of a Hurricane – now that’s some serious rain! And here, when the rain stops it just gets really steamy…makes you wish for more rain.

I love the way you capture the things that most of us simply pass by without a second thought. Your photos are, as always, beautiful.

I like that poem Faren, and while I don’t wish for a hurricane I wish for proper rain storm with crashing thunder and lightening, a storm that then fucks off a while later and lets us all get on with our lives rather than hanging over us like a concrete blanket suffocating my otherwise high spirits. I’m serious, this weather is really getting me down :(

Great pics… as usual. I love the rain, the heavier the better. Even greater if it comes with thunder and lightning. I’d love to go storm chasing in the US.
