I had to make a post at this time because this is simply an interesting historical time for people who aren’t American (you Americans of course write dates the wrong way around). Now, had I been in America earlier in April I could have observed this event twice as the United States saw this date on the 5th of April. Apparently loads of American bloggers did exactly what I am doing now. Hmm? I’m wondering, does this make me worryingly geekish?

According to the BBC news website the most exciting “sequential time” was in 1989. It was 01:23:45 on 6/7/89. at 1:23 in the morning in 1989 I was… well suffice to say I wasn’t sitting at a darn computer screen being a geek. Just over a year later there was another such “sequential time” of 12:34:56 – 7/8/90, but this wasn’t as exciting for clock watchers if the BBC are to be believed.

This who “sequential time” thing really isn’t that exciting though. I mean no one is going to thank me if I decide that now would be a good time to let off a few fireworks. But in a strange way this feels a little similar to the dawn of the new millennium. On that January morning loads of people got up to watch the sun rise at the start of another thousand years. Unfortunately, having enjoyed the celebrations to the full the night before when the time came to get up to watch the new dawn I decided that my bed was a far more sensible place to usher in a new age.

Next month, if you’re an early bird you might want to mark 06:06:06 – 06/06/06. The only way I am likely to see that time is if I haven’t gone to bed yet, and in truth, that isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

Happy clock thing day to you all.

The perfect time

Maybe you have to be a ‘Mac person’ to enjoy these new TV commercials from Apple? The Mac is represented by a cool casual looking guy and the PC is represented by a rather out of step awkward guy, nice touch Apple.

I spent a truck load of money yesterday buying a new dual core Intel 10″ flat screen iMac. I was going to get a new Mac a while back, but for one reason or another I decided to wait until the new Intel ones came out. My trusty of flat screen G4 iMac is just over three years old now, and although it’s been a great computer for all my work and stuff, it’s getting on a bit and needs to step aside and let something younger have a go.

The funny thing is that a lot of people assume that I’m some kind of computer geek. I suppose this comes from their knowledge that I work on a computer all day doing ‘internet stuff.’ Truth be told I know very little about computers, less than most people I think. I’m a Mac user, so by default my computer is built for people who don’t want to mess about with computery stuff but rather just get on and do whatever it is we want to do.

A few years ago people would ask me what the hell I used Mac for as they were apparently “going out of business soon.” Now it seems that, thanks to the iPod maybe, Apple computers are now the coolest computers to have.

I’m just happy not be be affected by the gazillion viruses, malware, spyware and other such nasties that are out there ready to take advantage of some lax PC user. Thing is, I find myself wondering if the viruses that are out there were maybe written in secret by the companies that sell virus detection software. I suppose that’s my inner cynic coming out isn’t it.

Saw this cartoon in the New Hampshire Gazette while I was in Portsmouth NH the other day. It made me chuckle so I thought I’d share it with all of you (not that anyone is reading this blog at the moment).

Ugly pictures from the car on the road near Boston Logon airport

I’m back in the UK after what feels like months in America. Ironically enough this last trip stateside was one of my briefest, but taking in two very distinct locations (Mississippi and Boston) made it feel like longer.

The picture above was the last photograph I took in America this time. It’s a strange picture, a seemingly random road picture, not one that I would ordinarily admire. I was trying to quickly catch a picture of the downtown Boston skyline in the six o’clock evening sun as Anne and Michael drove me to the airport. I obviously missed the shot, but I don’t suppose it would have been a great picture had I even managed to get it.

It’s a holiday in the UK today. Mayday, though I don’t really know what Mayday celebrates? But who cares, it means that most people can stay off work and enjoy a day doing whatever they like. I’m happy because it means that all is quiet downstairs in the salon (I live above a hairdressing salon). I’m not in the mood for hairdryer noise, perm smell and the whiff of cigarettes smoked by staff in the back room between appointments.
